Blog Post # 4

The Practical Principals
In this blog a principal talks about how he started off of the 2012-2013 school year informing his staff that he would no longer be sending email reminders and that he was switching primarily to his blog. Teachers will have to keep up with the blog on their own time and he believes this will be much more effective than e-mails. This is the truth e-mails are slowly becoming less and less effective. Think, how many e-mails do you delete a day without even opening them? I know that is the first thing I do when I log on to my e-mail account , is filter through and delete anything that does not immediately appear important. For the teachers who do not blog or want to deal with it the principal enabled a "Subscribe by email," button at the top of the page. This is a great example of a principal thinking not only for himself, because he is trying to be fair. In being fair he is also saving himself a lot of time because he still only has to post in one location, this is a time-saver! This blog is very helpful in showing a principal using blogging to it's fullest potential in a way that is helpful to all of his staff members! The information I learned from this blog will be helpful in my podcast because it made me think about how to use a blog in the most effective yet time saving manner possible , while getting the most out of technology!

"The benefits of Podcasting in the Classroom."
This video focuses about how helpful and effective podcasts in classrooms can be ! Podcasts can be viewed by anyone at anytime and this makes podcasts extremely convenient. Students that are sick and have to miss school for a day or two can watch their podcasts from home and keep up withe their classmates. Podcasts are and exciting way to get students further involved with the classroom. The students that we are teaching now have never lived without personal computers around and handheld technological devices. And with the ever-growing world of technology, our classrooms have to change with time as well. Students need to get more involved in education and podcasting is the perfect way to grasp their attention while making learning more fun and incorporating a use of technology that they are most familiar with! Students want to learn when they get to participate and have fun! Podcasting is not only about convenience and effective teaching habits it is a valuable tool that these students can use forever!

What is a PODCAST?
This blog is great for someone like me, who until now had never used PodCasts or heard much about them. The author tells us what a PODcast is exactly.
"The term “podcast” is a cross between “broadcast” and “iPod.” A podcast is a “radio-style” talk show. It may include music as well. It may be listened to on the computer or an MP3 player, and may be downloaded from iTunes or a podcast hosting service. "
This was very valuable information for me because I did not realize where the term came from, and now it makes perfect sense. Podcasts are great because you can talk about ANY information desired and direct it at any audience, anywhere at any time. This information will be helpful when making my own podcasts because I now have a better understanding of what I am actually doing and what to expect and what a podcast is all about.

  1. I enjoyed reading your post #4. It was easy to understand and I agree with many of your opinions about the videos. I did find a few mistakes. In the first post on this assignment, "The Practical Principals", I think the first sentence should be broken down. There were sever times in this paragraph that it looks as if you ended the sentence by typing "l" instead of a period. I'm not sure if you typed an exclamation mark and it looks like "l" or if you just typed fast and may have hit the "l" key instead. The locations I found this is on line 12,13 and at the end of the paragraph. In the second paragraph,"The Benefits of Podcasting in the Classroom", I found the same "l" on lines 1, 10, and the last line. I would possibly change the second sentence by flipping it. Over all this is a well written post.

  2. Annie,

You put a lot of thought into your blog post and added many examples. This is good. However, I found some grammatical errors. You tend to combine multiple sentences into one when they could be divided up. These are not exactly run on sentences. I just feel they would flow better if they could be separated. For example take this sentence, "This is a great example of a principal thinking not only for himself, because he is trying to be fair."

It would sound better if it were, "This is a great example of a principal thinking of others and not just himself. He is trying to be fair."

Also you need alt and title modifiers on every picture. You can refer to the project section of the Instruction Manual for these instructions.
