Blog Post 1 About Me & Time Management

My Life
My name is Annie Marie Turner, I go by Annie. I live in Daphne, Alabama where I work as the Pre - K3 teacher at Preschool By the Bay. I love my job, everyday is a challenge and teaching children is one of the most rewarding jobs to do everyday. I am also a mother to a beautiful four year old named Riley, she is the light of my life and motivates me everyday to be the greatest person I can be! She is sweet and intelligent child that I am blessed to call my own. I am a transfer student from Faulkner State Community College and so far I am loving going to South! This semester I am also taking EPY355 and EDU301, and SY109 which are all proving to be fun classes where I will learn a lot I am sure! I am passionate about teaching, as well as learning.
There is something truly magically when you actually teach a student something, watching them put together all of the pieces and figure things out because you helped them actually retain the information is just truly magical. For instance on Friday, at work I have a student who has been struggling to hold his pencil correctly , simply because his motor skills were not fine- tuned. Together we have been working for two weeks on his pencil skills alone and on Friday I watched as he picked up the pencil and noticed he was holding it incorrect and he flipped it around and around until he got it right! That was all the reward in the world I needed that to me is what teaching and learning is all about! I am majoring in Elementary Education, and I would love to teach 1st or 2nd grade I have worked some with Autistic children and would especially love to work with them again.
Randy Pausch's Time Management
Randy Pausch says that as American's we are bad at time management and spend most of our focus on money. People do not typically think about time and money in a related category. People need to think of why they are doing something, what is the overall goal, will they succeed, and what will happen if they do not do something. Set a goal , but set an obtainable goal within reason and capability, that way they are more likely to be met. Focus on doing things correctly rather than doing the right things. Experiences come in time and bad experiences are where we learn. If you learn from the mistakes like procrastination , in the future you will plan better. Making a plan is always a much better plan than having no plan at all. "Failing to plan is planning to fail." I like that! It is true! Plans will change but if you have a plan to begin with you are better off than having no plan at all. Break tasks down into smaller plans and then they are easier to accomplish, get the worst tasks out of the way first so you do not procrastinate.

Randy Pausch went to Brown University and studied Computer Science and Human Computer Interaction. He was a professor who taught Computer Science. His lessons and lectures can be found on You Tube. Pausch passed away in 2008 after a battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
Time Management via Penn State
Cramming for exams, not making time to study, stress, not sticking to a schedule or plan; all examples of NOT using Time Management.Planners and schedules are great for keeping you on track. Making a to do list is a perfect first step towards time management skills. Plan out your day our week reasonably, give yourself breaks and adequate time in each area. Do not spread yourself too thin or take on a load to heavy that would be impossible to tackle. Be organized so you can later have down time.
